Area
of the
Phlegréens fields in the North-West of Naples
The Phlégréens fields
: volcanic craters, lakes, phenomena, archeological
sites... These places are impregnated Greek and Roman mythological
stories.
Pozzuoli, fonded by Greek
refugees in the IIIth century b-C. The
downtown area was evacuated at the beginning of the Seventies because
of movements of bradyseism. To see: the temple of Serapis, the
amphitheatre, the historical center, the small fishing port with its
fish restaurants.
The crater of the volcano of Solfatara
: fumerolles, from sulphur
dioxides escapes from it permanently.
Cumes is a very old Greek colony,
going up in the VIIIthe century before
J-C. To see: Arco Felice, the archaeological park.
The
hill of Posillipo and
the Virgiliano park
From
the hill of
Posillipo, the sight on the bay of Naples is splendid, old
vacation resort
of the Roman rich person of antiquity.
From
the Virgiliano park one
enjoyed a
superb panorama on the gulf Naples, Pozzuoli, the bay, Capri and
Ischia.
The hill of Vomero
On
the heights of Naples,
this residential district
offers also a panorama on Naples. To see: The Floridiana villa, the castle Sant' Elmo, Chartreuse San
Martino, street via Scarlatti with
its many shops, Pedamentina: street in staircases which goes down
until the centre town.
Islands : Capri, Ischia and
Procida
Accessibles in boat
or
hydroplanes starting from the port of
Mergellina, Molo Beverollo (port of the centre town) or from Pozzuoli
for Ischia and Procida
Capri, more far
away, can also be joined from the port of Sorrento on
the amalfi coast.
Ischia
is the largest island
of the
gulf of Naples, very touristic, it
is known for its hydrotherapy and its beaches. To see: Ischia porto,
Ischia Big shot (village of sinners). Possibility of making the turn
of the island in bus (approximately 2 hours).
Procida
is the
smallest of the islands of the gulf, less touristical, it is
undoubtedly the most authentic.
Herculanum,
Pompei, le
Vesuvius, Sorrente, and the Amalfi Coast
Herculanum is located at 12 km far
from Naples. At the time of the eruption
of the Vesuvius in 79 this quoted rich person counted approximately
4500
inhabitants. She was completely absorbed under a mud and lava flow.
Besides some villas appear preserved better than in Pompei. Visit:
to count approximately 2 hours.
Pompei is located
at 25 km far fom Naples. Visit: approximately 5 hours.
Vesuvius is far
from 12 km of Naples, it constitutes a permanent threat, the last
eruption goes back to 1944.
The Amalfi coast is
an enchantment. Its panoramic road is one of
most beautiful of the Mediterranean. To see: Positano, Praiano,
Amalfi, Ravello, Minori, Maiori, etc.
